Foods Giving/Thanksgiving Baskets
The Women's Club of Princeton is partnering with community organizations to provide Thanksgiving dinner to needy families.
A few years ago, a student at Princeton Schools started a tradition of helping families who were experiencing financial difficulties around the Thanksgiving holiday. The Women’s Club of Princeton later took over and formed a committee to collect, organize, and put together the "baskets" for local families. The program has been tweaked over the years but its original purpose of helping local families has remained unchanged.
The Women’s Club of Princeton expanded the program by giving out Piggly Wiggly gift cards at Easter time to families who were part of the Thanksgiving baskets program. The club hopes to continue providing items at least twice a year, and possibly more in the future. To achieve this, we are asking for donations of food items as well as monetary donations.
Families in need have been identified through a survey sent out to families in the Princeton School District. The names of the families who respond are kept confidential, and the distribution is done discreetly. This week, notices will be sent out to families through emails and paper notices, and families who complete the form will be included in the program. There is no income limit, and families are welcome to participate each year. The forms will be collected by Mrs. Leann Holland.
The basket committee is looking for donations of specific food items to complete the baskets this year. The following items are needed:
• Cranberry Sauce
• French Fried Onions
• Yams
• Mini Marshmallows
• Brownie Mix
• Cream of Mushroom Soup
• Boxes of Jello
• Cans of Fruit
The Women's Club of Princeton is collecting monetary donations to purchase Piggly Wiggly gift cards through the school's Scrip program and extra food items for those in need. To donate, please contact Leann Holland at 920-229-8062, leanholl@princeton.k12.wi.us, or through the Club's Facebook page. Donations for Piggly Wiggly gift cards through the Scrip program will be accepted until November 3. Monetary donations are accepted year-round.
Food donations can be dropped off at:
Detjens' Piggly Wiggly,
St. John's Lutheran Church,
Christ Alone Lutheran Academy,
Calvary Lutheran Church, and
Princeton Public School.
Shopping lists will be provided.
Each basket will contain instant mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, gravy, green beans, corn, cranberries, yams, marshmallows, cream of mushroom soup, French fried onions, cans of fruit, brownie mix, and Jello. It will also include a Piggly Wiggly gift card to purchase a ham, turkey, or other dinner items as desired. Additional items may be included as donations come in.
The baskets will be available for pick up at Princeton Public School on Tuesday, November 14th from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Those who have signed up for the program will be contacted with further details before the delivery date.
